Research Point: Vernacular Typography

Vernacular typography can be very well crafted but it can also be crudely created signs done in a hurry. Either way it is using typography and lettering to create visual communications. Take a look around you and identify some vernacular typography that you find interesting.

I created an Pinterest board with examples. I think the use of vernacular typography gives the text a more personal and unique appearance (whether it is done well or not). It can attract attention as it is more unusual to see this kind of typography. I really admire the skill someone has to have in order to produce the high quality vernacular typography.
