Assignment 2 Feedback
I was not particularly pleased with any of the work I created in this module, apart from final assignment, and was not expecting very positive feedback. I felt really out of my depth and I had unconfident in my abilities. So, I was not really surprised with the feedback, but still very disappointed in myself (I would actually go so far as to say I felt ashamed) and it took me a few days to be able to read through it again! However, I was heartened to see that my tutor thought my final assignment was ‘excellent’ and one of my strengths is character design.
The main points I selected from the feedback were:
Be more analytical and reflective with regards to research – pick out certain examples, explain why these are important and what impact they have on my idea development. Expand on my explanations, alongside more reasoned answers and firm rationale for my ideas.
Show more developmental work, with consideration of other options show, and document the process on my Learning Log – experiment with different layouts, textures, fonts and colour palettes, reflecting on these (strengths and weaknesses) before making final decisions.
Widen research – contextualise by linking my work historically, e.g. designers, artists or movements.
Increase use of sketchbook – I should increase my use of this to show ideas I have discarded and the process I go through to get to the final result.
Typography – I really need to work on this, by reading and working on some type-based exercises.
Open briefs – when given an open brief, I should consider creating my own set brief within this, which I definitely feel would help me to have a clear outcome to work towards.
I am going to back through some of the exercises and make improvements because I was so distressed (!) by how amateurish they look. I am reading a great deal and do feel that I have the potential to improve greatly.
